‘THE WORLD UNKNOWN’
Video Editing
3D Unreal Engine Design
The World Unknown, is a discoverable and in depth environment design. The intention for this project was to allow users to experience a different world from their own within the comfort of their home. With its view-port manipulating the perspective of a normal day to day office window, changing from the original world in which the subject comes from to a functional dystopian slum. The view-port itself is large and open to misguide the viewer as they attempt to look further out into the world. To reflect the large view-port the visible environment outside must be limited and compact. The techniques of Unreal engine, Lighting and perspective are all used throughout this piece.
The entirety of the project was made within the digital engine of unreal, using multiple functions found in the software like level sequences, Niagara systems, blueprints, timed animations and lighting. The lighting within the engine itself made for more depth within the scene and a realistic point of view and experience for the viewer. Making the light that is further away darker compared to the lights that are closer to the view-port as well as changing the colour’s of the lighting made a broken down and dysfunctional aesthetic. The perspective that is primarily used is first person perspective, with its limitations of view the audience is only able to see the second story of an alleyway instead of seeing a full cityscape environment. Putting animated sequences within the environment allowed for a more realistic approach, animals like foxes, wolves and crows can be depicted throughout the scene. The Niagara systems heavily influence the weather, explosions, fires, smoke and electrical wires which in turn creates more dystopian environment aesthetics when viewing from the window.
